Experiencing “windmill technology” is remarkable.
Last February 2010, our group of engineering organized a plant visit. We visited the windmill located at the Bangui , Ilocos Norte. I was so amazed when the first time I set my eyes on these windmills and so my group wondering how they operates these such kind of technology. It was really knowledgeable.
When our bus getting closer to the windmill…..it was so huge…whoa!!!! and I was so excited. We went to the Maintenance Office, there was the engineer who oriented us about some sort of knowledge, its history and so the people involved of building that kind of tools. The engineer said that 40% of the electricity that used in Ilocos Norte came from the windmills and the rate of the electricity there was so cheap even though it was a private firm. Each windmill had 236 meters apart on shore. These beautiful structures had 41 meters blade and its height was roughly equivalent to a 23 storey building, as the engineer discussed to us. Another thing that I asked to myself is that how this technology built, where these people get the materials? And so the engineer told to us that these materials were imported from the other country and the investors were foreign business men. After some briefing, we had given the opportunity to look closer to the windmill and take some pictures for souvenirs.
That place can never be forgotten and so the experience I had, exploring that wonderful site. You shouldn't miss visiting windmill when you pass by Ilocos Norte. I hope our government should provide more renewable energy in different parts of the country and reduce the frightening greenhouse effect which causes global warming.
What an enjoyable plant visit!
